What is Tension Type Headache?

A headache that...
- Feels like a tight band wrapped around the head
- Mild to moderate pain intensity
- Both sides of the head
- Usually no nausea or vomiting
- Not affected by more than one of either sound or light
There are 4 main types of tension type headaches. Every type has at least two from the previous list!
The main differences between the different types of tension type headache are the frequency and intensity of the headache.
4 main types:
- Infrequent episodic: <12 days/year, lasts 30min -7days
- Frequent episodic: 1-14 days/month >3 months, lasts 30min-7days
- Chronic: >15 days/month >3 months, lasts for hours/days
- Probable: headache that is missing one criteria to fulfil criteria
